VIRGINIA B. ANDES SCHOLARSHIP
HELPING OTHERS REACH THEIR LIFE GOALS
All of his life, Vincent Bauer dreamed of being a nurse. Vincent understood the need for quality healthcare from an early age as his parents dealt with physical and mental illnesses while growing up. “My dad was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia/bipolar and was hospitalized my entire life. My mother, diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, has been physically challenged throughout her life. The visualization of what people go through and the ability to be able to lend a hand – truly motivates me.” said Bauer. The transition into adulthood only increased his desire to become a nurse the more he saw illnesses impact his family and friends.
Bauer currently works at Shorepoint Health in Port Charlotte, currently studying to become a registered nurse. “I have developed a better understanding in the field of healthcare and have gained tremendous knowledge of terminally ill patients while working at Shorepoint Health,” said Bauer.
Bauer has been a recipient of the Virginia B. Andes Scholarship both in 2021 & 2022. The Virginia B. Andes scholarship was established in honor and memory of Virginia B. Andes. Virginia’s generous contribution to the Charlotte Community Foundation purchased the building for the Virginia B. Andes Volunteer Community Clinic. This clinic provides free healthcare to the underserved working poor in Charlotte County.
Faced with financial struggles after his father passed away and the impact of COVID-19, Bauer is beyond thankful for the scholarships. “The impact of the Virginia B. Andes Scholarship has provided me with relief from worry and financial hardship for the future,” he said. “The importance of community plays a tremendous role in my life. Strong communities are a necessity because this is the foundation of building a strong social connection and a sense of belonging.
“Charlotte County Community has made a tremendous difference in my life because the profession I have chosen requires a village of support, and all of my success involves those who have financially as well as emotionally supported my aspirations.”
The goal of the Charlotte Community Foundation is connecting people who care with causes that matter.
