The Charlotte Community Foundation’s (CCF) mission is “Connecting People Who Care with Causes that Matter”. Through the generosity of our valued donors, CCF is able to provide grant funds to various charitable organizations within Charlotte County each year. Whether it be giving back to local veterans, providing resources to our homeless population, or supplying educational materials to our youth, CCF strives to create a more equitable community for our residents to enjoy all year round.
The Lillian J. Adams Fund for Animal Welfare was established in 2009 with the purpose to support the care of animals and the promotion of animal welfare by supporting viable organizations devoted to such purposes. Throughout the years this fund has supported Canine Castaways, Suncoast Humane Society, and law enforcement agencies in Charlotte County. To date, this fund has been able to provide over $100,000 in grant funds in support of animal welfare in the local community.
Speaking with grant recipient Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office; “This grant has done a number of things for the K-9 Unit, which ultimately benefits the Sheriff’s Office,” said Sgt. Dave Musgrove of the CCSO K-9 Unit. “It has paid for multiple canines, which is a big cost to the agency. It’s also paid for equipment and training for the canines and handlers. Paying for these items has allowed us to reallocate some of the funds within the budget so that we could buy other things to help improve the K-9 Unit.”
Musgrove felt fortunate to have learned that the CCF grants were available. “I found out about them through a co-worker (Sgt. Doherty) when I took over the K-9 Unit,” he said. “I have also learned a lot about what the grant can be utilized for from Ashley Maher (CCF CEO). And, we’ve always been pleased to receive assistance from the Charlotte Community Foundation because it helps us better serve the community.”
Musgrove truly appreciates CCF and says it is a wonderful organization that is all about helping and caring for those in need.
“CCF has done so much for this community and has had a positive impact because they fund so many organizations, as well as events within the community,” he said. “They’re an amazing group, and they do an awful lot for Charlotte County.”
