To whom it may concern,
I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for extending such a generous gift. This scholarship will allow me to finish my goal of reaching the final level in my nursing career so that I may go out and be able to continue to help others in a more needed way. Without having funding for this endeavor has caused me so much stress and doubt of whether I would be able to start and finish this program, but one thing that never wavered was my desire to do this program because I know how much our community needs this. While I know that I’m only one person I can give back in so many ways and I look forward to doing so. I have been in the medical field since I started as a candy stripper in a nursing home when I was 13 and have never looked back. Becoming a nurse has given me such a feeling of pride. Like anyone else who has had a rocky start to their life going to nursing school helped me not only mature but become a better person.
Nursing is something that I have done for most of my adult life, and it is all I know how to do, serving others gives me a great feeling because there is no greater joy than helping people to be healthy and happy. Becoming a nurse practitioner and serving the underserved is something that I look forward to doing after I graduate, and I hope to encourage others to join me in expanding services within our community for everyone regardless of their ability to pay. My goal as an Adult-Gerontology Primary Nurse Practitioner is to open my own practice at some point by way of an office and a mobile clinic. The mobile clinic will allow me to reach areas within underserved communities where they may not have the luxury of having a health care provider within the places that they live for whatever reason (e.g. Lack of money, lack of transportation, etc.). Some of these people may never have happy opportunity to even see a doctor or a nurse.
I hope to practice something called functional medicine which, in essence, is being able to approach healthcare from a more holistic point of view. Functional medicine looks at preventing diseases and helping patients to have a better quality of life. This would be accomplished by many things such as teaching proper nutrition, teaching stress-reducing techniques, and other things that can help a person to live longer healthier lives. So, thank you for allowing me an older student to be able to have the means to continue my journey, I will continue to pay it forward and help mentor the future generation of healthcare professionals as well as to continue to contribute to the field of nursing.
